Lifetime 71799 In-Ground Basketball System with 50-Inch Shatter Guard Backboard

Lifetime 71799 In-Ground Basketball System with 50-Inch Shatter Guard Backboard Review

Lifetime 71799 In-Ground Basketball System with 50-Inch Shatter Guard Backboard Feature

  • Durable in-ground basketball goal designed for rugged, high-intensity play
  • 50-inch pro-look backboard made of sturdy Makrolon polycarbonate for shatter-proof action
  • Action Grip pole raises or lowers rim from 7-1/2 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments
  • Slam-It Rim with double-compression springs for dunking; all-weather nylon net
  • Powder-coated, weather-resistant finish; fixes in ground with cement; 5-year warranty
Hone your jumpshot in your spare moments or perform a backyard dunking drill with the Lifetime 71799 in-ground basketball goal. Designed for permanent installations in cemented driveways, the 71799 includes such features as a Shatter Guard backboard, a spring-back Slam-It Rim, and an Action Grip pole mechanism for speedy height changes.

The goal's sturdiness stems from the cement-ready base, which is more rigid and takes up less space than portable basketball goals (it does require roughly 72 hours of cement drying time, however). The clear 50-inch Shatter Guard backboard, meanwhile, is made of Makrolon polycarbonate, which is virtually unbreakable and 30 times stronger than acrylic. As a result, broken backboards are a thing of the past, even from errant rocks and other non-basketball threats. In addition, the board offers a UV coating that prevents yellowing over time, a high-impact polyethylene frame, and screen-printed inks for fade-resistant color.

Lifetime knows that dunking and above-the-rim play are a huge part of modern basketball, which is why the 71799 also comes with both a height adjustment mechanism and a spring-back rim. The three-piece, 3.5-inch Action Grip pole includes counter-balance springs that make it easy to raise or lower the rim from 7-1/2 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments without requiring a broomstick, crank, or other tool. Thanks to the Action Grip technology, players of all ages and skill levels can enjoy the game on their own terms, while aspiring dunkers can gradually raise the level 6 inches at a time as their vertical improves. The orange Slam-It Rim, meanwhile, is designed specifically for players who like to throw down. The orange solid-steel rim features double-compression springs that give way during dunks to protect the player, then spring back once released. The rim is also supported by 1/2-inch braces, with welded-steel net hooks and an all-weather nylon net.

The 71799, which is protected by a powder-coated, weather-resistant finish, comes with a five-year warranty.

Amazon.com Basketball System Buying Guide
With the high-quality construction of many portable basketball systems, turning your driveway into a basketball court can be as simple as hooking up your garden hose. But while a portable system may ultimately be your best choice, there are reasons you may want to consider an in-ground or wall-mount system before you decide.

In-Ground Systems
In-ground systems are permanently cemented into the ground--either via a bolt mounting kit or directly into the ground--and are generally more rigid and take up less space than portables. In-ground systems often require that you hire a professional to complete the task, but when the cement dries you'll have a hoop that can take punishing dunks with ease.

Many in-ground systems are height-adjustable, include removable post features that let you take the system down for off-season storage, and feature heavy-duty break-away rims. You'll also want to research the adjustable mechanisms on the systems, as there are several types to choose from. Some feature a counter-balance spring that lets you perform easy, one-hand adjustments while others may feature a sturdy, pneumatic system.

Wall-Mount Systems
Wall-mount systems can be mounted to the side of a house, a tall retaining wall, or a garage. Generally sturdier than portables, wall-mounts have the added advantage of optimizing your existing ground space for the court, since you won't take any space up with the base or pole. Not all systems include the necessary hardware, so make certain you add a mounting kit to your list.

Portable Systems
Portable systems require minimal installation and offer ultimate convenience. These systems generally feature a base that can be filled with sand or water to stabilize them and include wheels for portability. Although they are not as sturdy as in-ground or wall-mounted hoops, portables are simple to set up and can often be folded for convenient storage.

Backboard Considerations
Regardless of which system you choose, you'll want to brush up on Backboards 101. Most residential systems feature backboards made of acrylic, fiberglass, graphite, or various other composite materials. While clear acrylic gives the professional look and feel of glass, it is not as rigid as fiberglass or graphite. Some systems may offer steel or aluminum backboards, which are virtually vandal resistant, but don't offer the true rebounding action.

The regulation size of an NBA backboard is 72 inches wide and 42 inches high. Most portable hoops are 42 or 44 inches wide and 36 inches tall. In-ground systems tend to be a bit larger, with 54-inch and 60-inch widths being the most popular. While rectangular shaped backboards provide more bank shot opportunities, they are generally more expensive than the streamlined fan-shaped board.

Lifetime In-Ground basketball system offers a clear 50" x 33" x 1" square Shatter Guard backboard screen printed with UV-protected inks for fade resistant color. The 3 piece, 3.5" round Action Grip Pole is powder coated with a Black Sand, rust resistant finish. The Action Grip lift mechanism helps to raise and lower backboard from 7.5 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments with one hand. Orange Slam-it Rim features double compression springs to provide spring-back action, welded steel net hooks and an all-weather nylon net. 5 year warranty that covers everything on the system. Lifetime Acrylic Fusion Pro Court Portable Basketball System, 44-Inch

Lifetime Acrylic Fusion Pro Court Portable Basketball System, 44-Inch Review

Lifetime Acrylic Fusion Pro Court Portable Basketball System, 44-Inch Feature

  • Portable basketball hoop with 44-inch acrylic backboard
  • 27-gallon wheeled base fills with water or sand for stability
  • Telescoping height adjustment system from 7.5 to 10 feet
  • High-impact polyethylene frame; classically styled orange rim
  • Graphics are screen-printed with UV-protected inks; 5-year warranty
Hone your jump shot in your spare moments or perform a backyard dunking drill with this Lifetime portable basketball system. Unlike in-ground basketball hoops--which are typically anchored in concrete--this portable hoop rolls on wheels, letting you position the basket support in your desired location, from the back patio to the middle of the cul-de-sac. All you have to do is fill the 27-gallon Pro Court base with water or sand and play.

The Lifetime hoop adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments.
Lifetime knows that younger players aren't always ready for a 10-foot hoop, which is why the basket boasts a height-adjustment mechanism. The telescoping mechanism adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in 6-inch increments--no tools required--letting players of all ages and skill levels enjoy the game on their own terms. Aspiring dunkers can also gradually raise the basket 6 inches at a time as their vertical improves, although the classically styled orange rim is not a breakaway rim.

And players needn't worry about the 44-inch backboard wearing dramatically over time thanks to the high-impact polyethylene frame and clear acrylic backboard. The sturdy material gives you the confidence to go up strong while adding a classic pro-glass look to your court. In addition, all graphics are screen-printed with UV-protected inks, ensuring that the colors won't fade. Also equipped with a three-piece, 2.75-inch round pole, the Lifetime system carries a five-year warranty.

About Lifetime
In the beginning, all the founder of Lifetime Products wanted was a sturdier basketball pole for his backyard. With this in mind, he found and purchased a piece of heavy-duty used pipe, a sheet of plywood, and a basketball rim. The resulting backyard basketball standard functioned perfectly in his backyard. Seeing the potential of his hoop, he placed an ad in the local free classified newspaper and made his first sale. The rest--as they say--is history. He created the American PlayWorld Company in 1973, based out of his garage in Riverdale, Utah. After expanding into several other types of playground equipment, he eventually moved to a bigger location in South Ogden, Utah. Several years later, the company transformed the basketball industry by introducing the Quick Adjust basketball pole, the first complete basketball system you could raise and lower with a broomstick. In 1986, American PlayWorld created Lifetime Products, a separate company intended to concentrate specifically on manufacturing adjustable basketball systems. In the ensuing years, the company has grown from having 18 employees in a 32,000-square-foot space in half a warehouse to more than 1,400 employees and 2.6 million square feet over 23 separate buildings.

Lifetime 90073 Acrylic Fusion 44-inch Pro Court Portable basketball system has a 27 gallon Pro Court base and a 44-inch sturdy acrylic fusion backboard, giving you the confidence to go up strong without fear of breaking it. The 3 piece, 2.75 inch round telescoping pole joins the solid base and backboard. Our backboard integrates a clear playing surface with high-impact polyethylene frame, that provides a superior strength and pro-glass look. All graphics are screen-printed with UV-protected inks, offering fade-resistant color. The portable 27 gallon base can be filled with 225 lbs of water or 378 lbs of sand. Made of polyethylene and blow-molded to form a seamless, one-piece part that has superior strength and durability. UV-protected and won't crack or degrade outdoors. Product of the U.S.A.

All you have to do is fill the heavy-duty 35-gallon base with water or sand and play.

The basketball system comes with a 52-inch-square Shatter Guard backboard made of Makrolon polycarbonate, which is virtually unbreakable and several times stronger than acrylic. When combined with the heavy-duty steel frame and the sturdy steel Y-extension arms, the basketball goal looks and plays just like pro-style glass, with superior rebound effects and terrific stability. The system also includes a three-piece, 3.5-inch round pole with Lifetime's patented pneumatic Action Grip® height mechanism. To change the pole's height--it adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in infinite increments--simply activate the Power Lift with one hand and push it to the correct height. And Lifetime knows that dunking and above-the-rim play are a huge part of modern basketball, which is why the basketball goal includes a Slam-It rim. The solid-steel rim features double-compression springs that give way during dunks to protect the player, then spring back once released.

Other features include welded-steel net hooks with an all-weather nylon net; fade-resistant graphics that are screen-printed with UV-protected inks for superior color endurance; and a five-year warranty that covers everything on the system.

Many in-ground systems are height-adjustable, include removable post features that let you take the system down for off-season storage, and feature heavy-duty breakaway rims.

Generally sturdier than portables, wall-mounts have the added advantage of optimizing your existing ground space for the court, as you won't need to dedicate any space to the base or pole.

Designed to sit in a driveway, backyard, or any other open space, the Spalding 54-inch portable basketball system will turn your paved landscape into a jump-shooting haven. The system starts with a 54-inch acrylic backboard with a heavy-duty steel frame. The board offers the same look and feel as pro-style glass backboards, helping you shoot layups and bank shots with confidence.

The Arena Slam breakaway rim, meanwhile, holds up well against the force of emphatic dunks--a must for modern hoops. The rim includes an institutional-style wrap with steel support braces, along with an ultra-smooth spring action that's designed to flex when pressure is applied, helping relieve stress from the backboard during game play. Players will also appreciate the hoop's Screw Jack lift system, which lets you adjust the height from 7.5 to 10 feet in infinite increments. When the hoop is at your preferred height, the handle removes to prevent tampering or accidental injuries. Other features include a two-wheel, 40-gallon base that fills with sand or water for maximum stability and safety; a front cover that acts as a built-in rebounder during play; a 16-inch board offset; and a three-piece, 3.5-inch-diameter round pole set at a 20-degree angle from the base.
